1. Know What You Want
The first step is to figure out precisely what you want. Are you looking for the perfect picture of suburbia with well-manicured lawns and children playing in the yards? Maybe you want something with community amenities. Think about the what options you would like to see near your chosen location. Maybe public transportation is a priority or a city park. Some people want to be within walking distance of amenities while others want to live away from commercial properties.
2. Consider the Type of Housing
Are you looking for a single family home or a condo? Think about the upkeep you are willing to take on or how much space you want. Some subdivisions include a lot of amenities like a gym, club house, pool and tennis or pickle ball courts and may include yard maintenance as well.
3. Drive By the Neighborhood
The best way to get to know any neighborhood is to drive by. Park your car, get out, and walk down the streets. Find out who lives in this area. Listen to sounds around the neighborhood. Visit at different times of the day to get an idea about what life in this area is like. It may be relatively quiet during the day when everyone is at work, while nighttime means loud parties and numerous cars cruising down the street. Only by visiting a neighborhood at different times of day can you get a good feel for what it would be like to live there.
